Mapping time and space- 4 wall installations by Pete Mountford

‘A squared & reconfigured world’
Digital imagery & Mixed Media on 396 6”X4” cards in 4 sections,
Acrylic on one 10”X8” canvas
Overall work - W 134 “ (11ft, 2”) X H 94” (7ft, 8”)

These works are all multi panel modulars that form together to create each piece.

The 4 pieces are taken from two separate bodies of work that are united in their dealing with defined areas on both a micro and macro level Underpinning this is Pete’s use of system, chance, sequence.and an ongoing interest in modular elements that create a narrative between each component

“The freedom to disobey the conventions of mapping and traditional portrayal of our encounters with landscape opens up a greater dialogue for both me as the artist and for the viewer. This further connects these works in their ability to portray a powerful ‘fleeting’ visual impact whilst encouraging and ‘demanding’ sustained investigation over time through multi faceted construction and intertwining concepts on several levels”

ASC UNIT 3 PROJECTS The Books I Haven’t Read JO KERNON

Installation with audio 2nd - 19th February 2012 Private View - 2nd February 2012 What happens when you repeat this statement silently or out loud? How does it make you feel? Do you think of a list of books? What images are activated when you think about the statement? These are some of the questions Jo Kernon has been asking in her work The Books I Haven’t Read. She has been gathering stories and engaging in conversations relating to these questions since June 2011. Jo is interested in using conversation and dialogue as a working process to re-look at questions and reveal more. The Books I Haven’t Read touches on questions of what it means to engage, what it means to know and to read. It gently highlights a new sense of possibilities with regard to our capacities to understand, know and experience and invites the viewer and participant to confidently re-evaluate their individual positions. “This apparently simple intervention into our assumptions about how we know is a subtle yet profound turning upside down of our inherited attitudes to knowledge and the ways we undermine ourselves.” Shelley Sacks, 2011 The Books I Haven’t Read will be at ASC Unit 3 Projects 2//2/12 - 19/2/12. Empson Street, London E3 3LT. Open Sundays only 1-5pm. Sunday Artist Session 5th February at 4-5pm “Reading the World” will be an opportunity to engage in the questions touched on in the work. Bring the book or the title of the book(s) you haven’t yet read.
